“One of the best benefits is that you have the opportunity to be a partner. The partnership structure means everybody’s pulling together and helping everyone else to be successful.”

Q: What are the benefits to becoming an Edward Jones Financial Advisor?
A: In addition to your compensation and the trips, one of the best benefits is that you have the opportunity to be a partner. Once you've been with the company for three years running a profitable, ethical business, you can become an owner. And that is so important, not only to you financially, but it's also a big part of the culture. The partnership structure means everybody’s pulling together and wanting and helping everyone else to be successful.

Q: What is your most rewarding experience at Edward Jones?
A: That would be a visit I had with an elderly couple in their eighties. I thought they wanted to go over their portfolio or make another investment. Instead, they showed me their new condominium. They said if it hadn't been for me, they wouldn't be living there. They wanted to thank me and show me what I had helped them accomplish. That was not only a very special moment, but it’s what Edward Jones is all about. It's about making a difference in people's lives.

Q: What would you tell someone new to Edward Jones?
A: You just have to follow the “recipe for success.” After many years in the business, Edward Jones has a proven, simple system and if you follow it, you'll be successful. In a nutshell, it’s making 25 quality contacts a day; talking to them; telling them who you are, and explaining to them what you can help them achieve financially. I've never seen anyone who followed the formula fail.

Q: How would you describe the culture at Edward Jones?
A: The culture is so different from other places I've known. Edward Jones is truly who they say they are. As a former police officer, I was a bit suspicious of a lot of things, including what I had heard about the firm’s culture during the hiring process. I remember saying, "If I see something that I don't like, I want you to know I'm out of here." And then the person interviewing me said, "That's the reason we're hiring you." I thought that was a pretty important statement. It speaks volumes about the firm.

Q: What kind of support do you get at Edward Jones?
A: I've had a lot of mentors in this job. Not just one, I've had dozens. They're always there to answer product questions or help out with anything you need. In fact, you get support from everyone here from the people at the head office, to your fellow Financial Advisors, all the way to the top to our managing principal. He'll pick up the phone and call someone just to ask how they are doing and to see if they need any help. You don't get that in other companies.
