Sales Training

Exceptional Hands-On Training
Once you pass your financial adviser and stockbroker qualifications, it’s time to begin learning and understanding investments, client needs and sales skills. Our nine-week sales training programme will help you do just that.

Know Your Client (one week)
During this class, conducted at our Headquarters in Canary Wharf, you will participate in a highly interactive programme utilising small group training led by Academic Training Leaders (ATLs). This class will help you develop a better understanding of the securities business, the firm, clients and their needs, and key investments. There is also an introduction to Edward Jones systems. In addition, we will introduce you to key prospecting and sales presentation skills that you will refine later in the training programme. Lastly, you will complete an individualised plan for the next step of your training, Market Research. Travel and accommodation expenses during Know Your Client class are paid for by the firm.

Market Research (three weeks)
During this time, you will be working in the market you have selected to develop your business. By introducing yourself and the business to the local community, through face-to-face prospecting, you will be able to compile a list of prospective clients from the local business owners and residents in your chosen location, Your conversations will help you to uncover the financial needs of the people in your community so that you can better determine how you can help them.

Branch Training (one week)
Taking place in London, this training will help you further refine first and repeat contacts and practise sales presentations. At the end of the week, you will sit an oral exam to ensure that your presentations have reached the required standard. You will also complete an anti- money laundering exam.

Prospecting Weeks (three weeks)
You will spend these weeks in the market you’ve selected to build your business. You will complete face-to-face first and repeat contacts with business owners and individuals, ask potential clients open-ended questions to obtain financial information, assess each contact and indicate the next action.

Evaluation/Graduation (one week)
This workshop, which concludes your initial training, is held at our training centre in London. You will receive your can-sell date (CSD) on the first day of this workshop. You will refine your telephone contact skills and practise sales presentations. You will also officially begin building your business by calling prospective clients to offer solutions to the needs they expressed to you in Market Research and Prospecting Weeks.. Additionally, you will develop a better understanding of the attitudes that lead to a successful Financial Adviser career, and learn how to apply the skills needed to create clients in your own market. You will also focus on compliance issues to help ensure good, ethical business practises from the start and that we are always treating the client fairly. Upon graduation, your initial training is concluded and you will return to your community as an Edward Jones Financial Adviser.
