Q: Describe your role within the firm. A: I ensure that Financial Advisers have the necessary retirement products to sell and then give them the knowledge and skills to make the sales. Q: Describe how your division contributes to the firm's success. A: We are tasked with producing the business from the Financial Advisers that is required to achieve profitability. Q: What year did you start at Edward Jones? What year did you start in your current position? A: I came to Edward Jones in 2001 and started this position in 2004. Q: What did you do prior to joining Edward Jones? A: I worked as a sales trainer for an insurance company. Q: Describe the culture at Edward Jones and how it’s different from your previous job. What is unique? A: Our focus on the one profit centre is very different. It gives a very simple test to anything we do - will this help the Financial Adviser be more profitable? The openness of the firm is also very different to what I have experienced in the past – very refreshing. Q: How did you hear about Edward Jones in the U.K. and what were your perceptions before joining? Have those perceptions proved to be right or wrong? A: I did know someone from my previous company who came to work for Edward Jones, but they did not tell me very much. I got the job through an agency and the only information I had was from Web sites. I therefore had little perception of the company when I joined, but it is different to any other I have worked for. Q: Before you came to Edward Jones, what did the name mean to you? And after you came on board? A: Pretty much nothing. Now it is a big part of my life and my success is tied into the success of the firm. Q: Articulate the spirit of volunteerism that exists at Jones. How have you been involved and what was that experience like? A: I am very impressed by the way Financial Advisers volunteer to take time out of their business to help other Financial Advisers achieve success. The fact that they do that encourages me to put in the extra effort to help as well. Q: What qualities do you think a person needs to have to succeed in the head office environment? A: To succeed at the head office people need to understand that the Financial Adviser is the profit area and everything should be done to support them. Q: How do you see your future at Edward Jones unfolding? A: I see a long and successful career and hope for further promotion in the future. Q: As you go through your daily activities, how do you know you’ve achieved success at Edward Jones? A: I have a business plan and goals are clearly defined. Other than that it is just the thanks that I get from a Financial Adviser I have helped. Q: There are very few offices at Edward Jones, with nearly all the firm's leaders located in cubicles. What does this structure mean to you? A: The approachability of the firm's leaders is a big part of the success we are seeing. Q: What has the firm's growth meant for leadership opportunities? A: Growth will happen here as it has in the United States. Opportunities will continue to become available – we have only just started out in the U.K. Edward Jones Limited does business in the United Kingdom as Edward Jones and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Edward D. Jones & Co. LP, a Missouri limited partnership. Edward D. Jones & Co. LP does business in the United States as Edward Jones and is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Jones Financial Companies, LLLP, a limited liability limited partnership.
