“I’m now well established and respected in my community, and I really enjoy getting to know local business owners and residents personally.”

Q: What are the benefits to becoming an Edward Jones Financial Advisor?
A: For all practical purposes, I am in control of my own business, but I didn’t have to pay a franchise fee. And I like that the more hard work I put into it, the more I get out of it. There’s also the community involvement aspect. I’m now well established and respected in my community, and I really enjoy getting to know local business owners and residents personally.

Q: Did your training prepare you for success with Edward Jones?
A: Yes. As someone with no previous financial background, I was taught everything about the investment industry, including the basics, like what is a bond? How is it going to look, smell and feel to clients? Just as important, if I did not know an answer to a question, I had great resources to find out. By the time I was meeting with clients, I felt very confident I could get the job done.

Q: When did you know you would be successful at Edward Jones?
A: When I realized that all I had to do was be myself and want to do business for the all the right reasons. That’s when I became comfortable and business really started to take off for me. Now, more than 10 years later, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to join Edward Jones.

Q: What personality traits are necessary to be successful at Edward Jones?
A: Obviously you must be motivated. You’ve got to be somebody who wants his or her name on the door but realizes that with it comes the responsibility of showing up to work every single day and doing whatever it takes to build a business. You have to be a very disciplined individual to do that. A certain degree of independence has to be there. Nobody is going to notice or look at what time you clock in or sign off at night. That’s all driven by the individual. You have to have an entrepreneurial streak. I get a kick out of seeing how big I can grow this business.

Q: Have you earned any incentive trips?
A: Two stick out in my mind: We took a fall trip to Vermont during the peak foliage season. It was incredible. The second one at the top of my list is an Alaskan cruise we took in August. The scenery was breathtaking, and the accommodations on the ship were stellar.
