“Being in Human Resources is really easy at Edward Jones because there is a real commitment to doing the right thing. Time and cost seem to be a secondary consideration. It is really about doing what is best for all involved.”

Q: Describe your role within the firm.
A: My job is to provide the information, resources and tools to help associates and leaders perform more effectively in their roles.

Q: What year did you start at Edward Jones? What year did you start in your current position?
A: I started in 2001 in the Associate Relations area as an HR Generalist II. I moved to the IS Division in 2004, but have been a Sr. HR Generalist since December 2003.

Q: What did you do prior to joining Edward Jones?
A: I worked in HR in the financial industry.

Q: Are there any memorable experiences you’d like to share that encapsulate or typify what it’s like to work for Edward Jones?
A: When I worked in Associate Relations I had a lot of interaction with the Financial Advisors and Branch Office Administrators (BOAs). There were several situations where the Financial Advisor was calling wanting to see what they could do to help their BOA, who was experiencing personal issues or in a hardship situations. It was so evident that the BOA was someone they really cared about and they were more than just the BOA. The firm does so much to help people in difficult situations that many do not even realize. Caring for each other and the community is so central to who we are at Edward Jones.

Q: Describe the culture at Edward Jones and how it’s different from your previous job. What is unique?
A: Being in HR is really easy at Edward Jones, because there is a real commitment to doing the right thing. Time and cost seem to be a secondary consideration. It is really about doing what is best.

Q: One area Edward Jones prides itself is enabling our associates to maintain a strong work-life balance. How does this approach impact you?
A: I have two young children, so work-life balance is top of mind for me every day. You want to be able to give your all at both home and work. It is has been easier for me to do, as my leaders have been flexible with my schedule and understanding when unexpected things came up. This has alleviated the stress when a child is unexpectedly sick and I need to work from home or I need to adjust my schedule when there is a family event.

Q: What does the firm being a partnership mean to you?
A: You don't see or hear about partnerships in organizations of this size and in this industry. That really makes us unique in this day and age. The partnership model makes 'thinking like an owner' real for so many associates—including me. Being a partnership truly means sharing the success and it reinforces how we are truly invested in and dedicated to making the firm a great place.

Q: Do you feel there are opportunities for advancement and greater income potential at Edward Jones?
A: Yes. As the Firm continues to grow, there will be even greater opportunity.

Q: Do you feel you are rewarded for taking initiative and “going the extra mile” at Edward Jones?
A: Most definitely. There is so much opportunity, especially if you are willing to do the work.

Q: What qualities do you think a person needs to have to succeed in the home office environment?
A: I would say a person needs a willingness to work hard, flexibility, and willing to take the initiative, help others and to always do the right thing.

Q: How do you see your future at Edward Jones unfolding?
A: Anything is possible at Edward Jones. I hope to continue to broaden and deepen my skills. I have only scratched the surface on what there is to learn and do here.

Q: How has the firm supported your professional growth via training opportunities?
A: Training has taken many forms. The on-the-job training has really been the most significant. I am so appreciative of what I have learned from the wide variety of experiences and challenges I have had on the job at Jones. I have also participated in several of Edward Jones leadership training programs. In addition, I am just a few credits from completing my Master’s degree, which the firm has supported through the tuition reimbursement program.
