Q: Describe your role within the firm. A: I am the leader responsible for the Cash Management Systems. One of my responsibilities includes ensuring the stability of our systems that handle the electronic transfer of money and assets for our Edward Jones clients. Q: Describe how your division contributes to the firm's success. A: My division contributes to the firm's success by introducing new or enhanced products and services for our branches to conduct day to day business with our customers. Q: What year did you start at Edward Jones? What year did you start in your current position? A: I started at Edward Jones in May 1999 as co-op intern on the IS Portfolio team. I have had my current leadership position since September 2003. Q: What did you do prior to joining Edward Jones? A: Prior to joining Edward Jones, I attended University of Central Missouri. Q: Are there any memorable experiences you'd like to share that encapsulate or typify what it’s like to work for Edward Jones? A: The systems I am responsible for directly impacts our Financial Advisors and Branch Office Administrators (BOAs) should our systems become unavailable before the day starts. My experiences in helping them are ensuring daily that these systems are ready before they start their day in the morning. Q: Describe the culture at Edward Jones. What is unique? A: The culture at Edward Jones as I have always understood has been serving the individual customer. I believe our leaders in the organization takes great pride in maintaining a certain level of service for our customers. When I think of the culture of Edward Jones, I think of a team working together so that our Financial Advisors and BOAs are best equipped to servicing our customers. Q: One area Edward Jones prides itself is enabling our associates to maintain a strong work-life balance. How does this approach impact you? A: Edward Jones provides you the opportunity to maintain a strong work-life balance. Some positions within the organization maybe a little more intense or demanding than others. But it doesn't prevent you from maintaining a balanced life. With any job you have to know your limits and set some boundaries in order to maintain that balance. Q: What does the firm being a partnership mean to you? A: The firm being a partnership means that the firm looks towards its employees to help drive and grow the company. Q: Do you feel there are opportunities for advancement and greater income potential at Edward Jones? A: I do feel the opportunities for advancement and greater income potential is available at Edward Jones. I believe you as an individual can make that happen for yourself if you seize the opportunities for advancement. Q: What qualities do you think a person needs to have to succeed in the home office environment? A: I think you have to be a team player. You have to be able to work well with others in all areas of the firm. You have to be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally to ensure the message you are delivering to your peers are understood and well received. I believe you have to be self-motivated and willing to be a coach and at times willing to accept constructive criticism for growth and personal development reasons. I believe you have to be positive and have open mind and sometimes and outside the box style of thinking in order to challenge yourself and others in the area to help develop new ideas on how to improve processes and procedures. Q: How do you see your future at Edward Jones unfolding? A: I see positive opportunities unfolding here at Edward Jones. I see myself here for a long-period of time. Edward Jones has always had a strong set of core values that has always accommodated my needs. Q: There are very few offices at Edward Jones, with nearly all the firm's leaders located in cubicles. What does this structure mean to you? A: The cubical atmosphere creates a type of an open door policy to our associates. I think it provides a since of comfort to our associates knowing that they can just walk into your cube and ask questions on particular topic. Q: How has the firm supported your professional growth via training opportunities? A: The firm has support my growth through the tuition reimbursement program, which has allowed me to receive my masters degree from Webster University. Q: What has the firm's growth meant for leadership opportunities? A: I think the firm's growth will continue to position itself down a path where it will be looking for leaders to take new and existing responsibilities. As we expand in Tempe and globally in our Canada and U.K. affiliates. Even when we reach 10,000 branches the firm will be looking for leaders to help continue to lead this firm to and past that milestone. The opportunity will be there.
