Q: What is your position title?
A: I am a Marketing Specialist

Q: Describe your role within the firm.
A: I divide my time between two departments within the Marketing Division. I am a member of Market Development and Marketing Liaisons. In Market Development, I am an account relationship manager. In this position I am responsible for the execution of some of the firm's strategic partnerships with other companies/organizations with similar clients/members. As a marketing liaison, I am responsible for marketing our Investing in Action programs to branches, supporting the PFO (personal financial organizer) and assisting the business retirement plan marketing area with their marketing materials.

Q: Which college program did you participate in when you joined the firm?
A: I am part of the Rotational Development Program (RDP).

Q: Describe how your division contributes to the firm's success.
A: The Marketing Division contributes to the firm's success by providing clear messages to clients and potential clients about the firm, our Financial Advisors and the products and services we offer. We are responsible for all of the firm's branding initiatives and external communications efforts from fliers and handouts in the branches to commercials on television.

Q: What year did you start at Edward Jones? What year did you start in your current position?
A: I started as an RDP in 2005 and have been a Marketing Specialist since 2006.

Q: What appealed to you about Edward Jones?
A: I was attracted to the career opportunities that were presented to me. I was interested in the different channels of marketing that the firm was considering exploring at the time of my interview.

Q: How did being an RDP associate help prepare you for a full-time role at Edward Jones?
A: As an RDP associate, I had the opportunity to see the firm from a variety of different departments, meet a significant amount of people and contribute to the firm through numerous projects. Each experience built upon the last and prepared me for my final placement in the Marketing Division. I still rely on the relationships that I built during my year as an RDP to help me in my current position.

Q: How is working at Edward Jones different than you thought it would be?
A: In my position, you do not have to be an expert in the details of all of the products. It is much less intimidating in terms of the product knowledge than I expected.

Q: Give an example of something you learned on the job at Edward Jones that you were never taught in school. How has that knowledge better prepared you for your future?
A: I learned a lot of detailed information about investments and retirement plans while at Edward Jones that I did not learn in school since I was a marketing student. This will help me as I prepare my own financial future.

Q: In your opinion, what about your time as an RDP associate helped you most develop in your career?
A: The opportunity to work in so many different areas of the firm helped me gain a better understanding of the firm and the services we provide. It served as a crash course in "What is Edward Jones?"

Q: What advice would you give a student who is considering their employment opportunities?
A: I would recommend that any student nearing graduation that is seeking employment looks for an opportunity where they will grow, be challenged and is able to do the things that they are best at.
