Q: Describe your role within the firm.
A: I support and develop for the firm's internet sites.

Q: Describe how your division contributes to the firm's success.
A: We provide important information to customers as well as assist in connecting future customers to Financial Advisors.

Q: What year did you start at Edward Jones? What year did you start in your current position?
A: I came to Edward Jones in 2003 and have held my current position since 2006.

Q: Which college program did you participate in when you joined the firm?
A: I was in the Information Systems (IS) Co-op program.

Q: What was your degree in?
A: My degree is in Computer Information Systems.

Q: What appealed to you about Edward Jones?
A: Edward Jones was a large stable company that consistently ranked as one of the top companies to work for. During the interview process it really seemed like the company valued the college program.

Q: Are there any memorable experiences you’d like to share that encapsulate or typify what it’s like to work for Edward Jones?
A: When I was a Co-op I had one semester remaining at school. When they offered me a position upon completion I expected to start over. However, I found out that the time spent during my co-op would be added to my start date. This was something the firm didn't have to do but was helpful for me because it helped with some benefits such as vacation and profit sharing.

Q: Describe the culture at Edward Jones and how it’s different from your previous job. What is unique?
A: It's a much more positive environment than I've seen in the past. There is a real opportunity for advancement.

Q: One area Edward Jones prides itself in is enabling our associates to maintain a strong work-life balance. How does this approach impact you?
A: Leadership is flexible on allowing you to enjoy your personal time. In the summer I participate in several activities. I am able to come in to work early so I can attend these activities.

Q: Before you came to Edward Jones, what did the name mean to you?
A: It was just another investment company. Now I really understand the firm and see it as a personal company in an industry that is usually completed over the phone and internet. Our Financial Advisors want to be part of the same community as their clients. This helps keep the client's best interests first.

Q: Articulate the spirit of volunteerism that exists at Jones. How have you been involved and what was that experience like?
A: There is a very strong commitment to the community which leads to volunteerism. I always contribute to the food drives, contests, and other activities. The firm allows workers to take time out of their work day to assist with the organization and execution of the firm's charitable efforts.

Q: How did being a Co-op associate help prepare you for a full-time role at Edward Jones?
A: I felt like I had a seven month head start when I started as a full-time associate. I was already familiar with the systems and terminology used by the firm. The Co-op was a great bridge for the transition from being a student to starting my career.

Q: How is working at Edward Jones different than you thought it would be?
A: I am more involved with the whole process of my projects. Leaving college I thought I would be given a list of things to complete and I would just work on them. However I am involved with the entire life cycle of the project. I work on everything from planning to testing which broadens your exposure to the business.

Q: Give an example of something you learned on the job at Edward Jones that you were never taught in school. How has that knowledge better prepared you for your future?
A: From a technical perspective almost everything I work on today is different from what I focused on in college. This shows that the company is willing to invest in its associates and give them the opportunity to learn new skills.

Q: In your opinion, what about your Co-op helped you most develop in your career?
A: The Co-ops have several opportunities to meet senior leadership both in and outside of IS. This helped me form a better picture of the firm and overall purpose of headquarters. I was able to establish relationships with other members of IS which is important in coordinating efforts that reach beyond my team.

Q: What advice would you give a student who is considering their employment opportunities?
A: The Edward Jones Co-op is a great opportunity. The seven month time period really allows you to understand what you are working on. Once the Co-op is over there are opportunities for full-time employment at a company with a great culture.

Q: Do you feel there are opportunities for advancement and greater income potential at Edward Jones?
A: I see several situations where members of leadership are home grown talent. This is very encouraging. I have seen my responsibilities increase since joining the firm. Edward Jones offers profit sharing, 401k matching, trimester bonuses, and firm partnership opportunities. These really help improve the compensation package.

Q: What qualities do you think a person needs to have to succeed in the home office environment?
A: To be successful you need to be a self motivated person who can build relationship with their co-workers. You should also have a willingness to work on efforts that are outside of your normal responsibilities.

Q: How has the firm supported your professional growth via training opportunities?
A: I have asked for and received several different types of internal and external training. This shows the company has a commitment to its associates and strives to increase their abilities and knowledge.
