Licensing, Training and Support
You’ll see our commitment to your success – even before you land the job.
Being an Edward Jones financial advisor is a rewarding career – where you can make a difference in others’ lives and, most importantly, your own. It offers autonomy and unlimited potential. But it’s challenging, and it takes a special person to be up for the task.
Our application and interview process is extensive. But for the right individual, it’s just the beginning of our commitment to your success.
You’re hired – now what?
Congratulations! Landing a job as an Edward Jones financial advisor is something to be proud of. You wouldn’t have made it this far unless success was within reach.
Throughout the interview process, we told you about our world-class training, outstanding support and professional development opportunities. First things first – you have a few tests to take.
Job One: Hit the books!
Your first assignment will be to study for your industry exams. To become registered to offer securities, securities laws and regulations require that all financial advisors pass:
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC)
- Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH)
In order to become registered to offer Insurance products, financial advisors also must complete the Life License Qualification Program (LLQP).
Prepare to buckle down – but not alone
The financial services industry is complex – and always changing. As a financial advisor, you’re expected to understand the investments available to your clients, regulations surrounding client suitability and the general rules of the industry. And you’ll want to have a solid understanding of all of it – so you can deliver tailored solutions to clients with confidence.
Preparing for the CSC, CPH and LLQP exams is challenging and time consuming.
- Trainees commit a minimum of 45 hours of study each week over the study period in preparation for the exams.
Get paid while you study
During onboarding, you will become a full-time associate of Edward Jones and will receive compensation on a bi-weekly basis. This will allow you to focus on training and development as you study for your licenses and begin to learn business-building strategies.
Everything you need to succeed
Our study program will provide you all the support you need to pass the CSC, CPH and LLQP exams. Count on:
- Comprehensive study materials and practice tests
- A study team that will monitor your progress and answer questions about the material
- Tools and resources to help you along the way
Job Two: Virtual and in-person learning
During the study period, you’ll participate in distance learning sessions to help you gain industry and investment knowledge. You’ll also benefit from support and collaboration with other financial advisors in your area. Near the end of the onboarding period, you’ll travel to Edward Jones headquarters in Mississauga, ON for in-person training and workshops with other financial advisors in training. These sessions provide a great opportunity to interact, collaborate and brainstorm with your peers from across the country – as you prepare to build your practice.
- Know Your Client
- Launch Your Practice
- Practice Development Program
Job Three: Let’s open your office!
Finally – you’re ready to start building your practice in a branch office in the community of your choice..
This is when our legendary support systems really kick in. And it’s what we mean by “on your own, but never alone.” As an Edward Jones financial advisor, you will have access to professional coaching to help you integrate what you’ve learned in training into your practice. Both home-office and field consultants will help you as you build your business – always. We’ll never stop being there to help you and provide learning opportunities.
