Sonya Adams knew from an early age, that her passion for diversity and people has been a driving force in her life. Being aware that she physically looked different from others, Sonya found significance in seeking common ground and genuinely appreciating differences. This passion has not only shaped her personal journey but has also become a pivotal aspect of Sonya’s career. Upon joining Edward Jones, she was immediately struck by the exceptional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the company. “It became clear to me that this was the environment in which I belonged,” said Adams.
Within our Asian Pacific Islander Business Resource Group (BRG), Sonya has been privileged in serving both as a contributing member and in various leadership roles. This specific resource has provided a unique opportunity for all associates to come together, not only to make a tangible impact within the firm but also to foster allyship across BRG communities. “The active promotion of inclusivity through our Business Resource Groups (BRGs) particularly resonated with me.” “Even during challenging times when various communities have faced social issues or unrest, our BRGs continuously stand as a beacon of support and understanding,” said Adams.
“At the heart of our efforts lies a fundamental desire to learn from one another, to embrace and understand our unique qualities, to acknowledge the similarities that bind us, and ultimately, to collectively create a positive and lasting impact.”

Diversity is not merely a buzzword at Edward Jones; it is a lived reality that permeates every aspect of our organization. Instead, it is a celebration of the vast array of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that everyone brings to the table. In our journey towards fostering diversity and inclusion, the significance of Business Resource Groups (BRGs) cannot be overstated. “These groups serve as vital platforms for employees to connect, share experiences, and advocate for inclusivity within the workplace. They not only provide a sense of community and belonging but also offer a powerful voice that champions diversity and inclusion across all levels of the organization,” Adams said. “The impact of these groups extends far beyond the confines of our office walls.”
In the end, Edward Jones understands that diversity is not what sets us apart; it is what unites us. It is the common thread that binds us together, propelling us towards a future where inclusivity isn’t just a goal to be achieved but a lived reality that enriches every aspect of our organization and the communities we serve.
