Robyn Jensen, Financial Advisor
Hackettstown, New Jersey
When Robyn Jensen, a former English teacher, was looking for a career change, she considered many options. It was when she listened to her mother that she found her perfect fit. Jensen’s mother, Sue Anderson, was an Edward Jones financial advisor and knew her daughter could succeed at the firm.
“My mom kept telling me I would be good at this, but I was good with words and felt intimidated by working in finance,” said Jensen. “A lot of women don’t consider this field because they think it is all about numbers, but it is really more about helping people. I really wanted a career where I could make a difference in people’s lives. I have found that at Edward Jones.”
Jensen’s mother started her career with Edward Jones as a branch office administrator, but a financial advisor saw her potential and, with encouragement and mentorship, Anderson became a financial advisor.
“The firm provided my mother with opportunities and growth that she might not have had otherwise,” recalls Jensen. “I saw her transform into a leader at Edward Jones.”
Having witnessed her mother’s success, with Anderson’s encouragement Jensen joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in 2005. Today, she helps clients reach their financial goals at a thriving practice in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
Jensen has followed in her mother’s footsteps in many ways, including bringing family to Edward Jones. Recently Jensen’s daughter, Erin Madonna, became a third-generation female financial advisor with the firm.
“I’m not sure I would have considered this career if it weren’t for my mother’s example. Same for my daughter; she saw me build my business from the ground up,” said Jensen.
Jensen, like her mother before her, benefitted from the support and mentoring the firm offers. When building her practice, she leaned on fellow financial advisors and allies in her area. As a private partnership, the firm’s culture is collaborative, rather than competitive.
“My colleagues helped me get a good start and believed in me,” said Jensen. “I wasn’t competing with the office next door and that made for a healthy work environment.”
Support and flexibility were important to Jensen when she came to the firm. As a mother and step-mother of six children, she appreciated her short 20-minute commute and the ability to set her own hours. Flexibility also allowed Jensen to build the practice her way. She’s encouraged her daughter to the do the same as she gets started too.
“There is no glass ceiling here. I work hard and there’s never been any limit on what I can achieve. I don’t think there are many places like that.”
